The Podiatry Student Portfolio is an essential document for students in podiatry training in France. This document, published by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, is both a guide and an assessment tool throughout the training. It allows to monitor and assess the skills acquired by students, from their entry into training until obtaining the state diploma.

Portfolio Objectives

The main objective of the portfolio is to promote a professionalization process for the student. It is used to:

  • Analyze the practice : The student can reflect on his experiences and link them to the theory learned.
  • Coordinate interventions : Trainers and tutors use the portfolio to align their teaching and monitor student progress.
  • Measuring Progress : By documenting their learning, the student can see their progress and identify areas requiring improvement.

Portfolio Contents

The portfolio includes several essential elements, including:

  • A summary table of clinical internships : This table allows you to note the nature of the internships (hospital, extra-hospital, private practice) and the dates on which they were carried out.
  • Clinical training sheets : These sheets are completed by the student before and after each period of clinical training. They allow for setting specific objectives and assessing the acquisition of skills.
  • End of training assessment : Before appearing before the final jury, the student carries out an overall assessment of their skills, in collaboration with their tutor and trainer.

Roles and responsibilities

When using the portfolio, each training participant has a well-defined role:

  • The student : He must prepare his internships, formulate learning objectives, and reflect on his practice throughout the training.
  • The clinical training tutor : A chiropodist-podiatrist who accompanies the student in the field, guiding them in their practical learning and assessing their skills.
  • The reference trainer : Appointed by the training institute, he ensures the overall monitoring of the student, coordinates the interventions of the tutors and participates in the final evaluation.

The skills framework

The portfolio is also based on a detailed skills framework, which includes ten main skills, such as:

  • Analysis and evaluation of clinical situations,
  • The design and implementation of therapeutic projects,
  • Communication and relationship management in an intervention context,
  • Interprofessional cooperation.

These skills are at the heart of the training and must be validated to obtain the diploma.

The Podiatry Student Portfolio is much more than just an administrative document. It is an essential tool for structuring the training of future podiatrists, providing them with a framework for their learning, while allowing trainers and tutors to monitor and evaluate their progress. The acquisition and validation of skills throughout training is essential to ensure that students are well prepared to enter the profession with the necessary knowledge and practices.
